General Objectives:

  • To form a dynamic, thriving network of women writers who will interact meaningfully with each other, share ideas, promote and encourage each others’ works
  • To promote reading and writing, especially among women and girls
  • To network with national, regional and international development partners who share MBAASEM’s mission
  • To provide programs, technical resources and facilities that support and enhance the creative processes of women writers
  • To find and promote new and emerging women writers
  • To empower women writers in their use of art as a tool for activism, social change, in the fight for gender equality and for African development
  • To increase African women’s earned income from their writing by improving market conditions for literary works
  • To serve as a platform for African women writers to lobby and engage governments and civil society organizations on policy and other development issues pertinent to women
